Suburb Profile - Northbridge

Just North of the railway line is the cultural and entertainment heartland of Perth. With a cosmopolitan atmosphere, Northbridge is one of the most colourful areas of central Perth and is the place to sample food from many different cuisines. Northbridge is also Perth's best venue for people watching. The streets stay busy into the small hours as people move from restaurants to nightclubs. Northbridge has long enjoyed the reputation as the centre of entertainment, and rightly so. Whether it is a Saturday night out on the town or a quiet continental breakfast on Sunday morning, there is no shortage of coffee shops, theatres, cinemas, pubs and nightlife. Northbridge has been the focus for various waves of migrants. First came the Chinese, then the Greeks and Italians, and more recently the Vietnamese. This rich history of cultural diversity is what makes Northbridge truly unique.

Northbridge may just be Perth's most colourful and culturally diverse community. Attractions in Northbridge include the Art Gallery of WA, Perth Institute of Contemporary Art (PICA), Photography Gallery, Alexander Library and WA Museum which displays WA’s early European and Aboriginal history, a Victorian workman’s cottage and reconstruction of old Perth goal. Northbridge also has small theatres : the Hole in the Wall, Blue Room and Cinema Paradiso.
